Social Engineering
Social engineering is the attempt of an unauthorized individual persuading you into providing them your confidential information. Through phone calls, texts, and emails, they pretend to be bankers, insurance representatives, health care providers, or other agencies in order to gain your trust - making you feel comfortable speaking to them and providing them information. Please know that Putnam County National Bank will never call, email, or text you asking for your ATM card, account, or social security number. Please contact us at (845) 225-3688 if you ever suspect a fraudulent communication from PCNB.
Online Security
Security is a primary concern with Internet Banking. Putnam County National Bank realizes and appreciates the trust and confidence you have placed in us. We have worked diligently with our online banking provider, NetTeller, to assure that your privacy is safeguarded and your internet banking experience is safe and secure.
Log-In Protection
We will assign each customer a private password generated by Putnam County National Bank for their initial log-in to the online system. In order for each customer to have an entirely private password, the system will force each customer to change their password after their first log-in. NetTeller passwords are alpha-numeric and must be 6 characters in length. Do not choose a password that is easily guessed, such as a birthday.
Password Security System
It is very important that ONLY YOU know your Username and Password. This is the only way your account may be accessed. Your account will be locked out after 3 unsuccessful login attempts. If your account is locked out, you must call Putnam County National Bank at (845) 225-3688.
Pseudo Names Used
In order to allow account access, a "Pseudo Name" (nickname) is used in place of an account number to maximize the protection of your internet banking experience. If you rename your accounts on NetTeller, we recommend you do not change it to your actual account number.
Automatic Logoff
If you are logged on but do not perform an activity for 10 minutes, you will not be able to proceed until you log back in.
Multifactor Authentification
In order to make your online banking experience as secure as possible, we are using a security feature that detects any uncharacteristic or unusual behavior involving your account. MFA monitors for unusual activity and will verify your identity with challenge questions that you have set up. We also use a watermark feature that confirms you have logged into the authentic NetTeller site. If you log into your account using a different computer, MFA will request that you verify your identity.
For additional information on this security feature please call (845) 225-3688 and ask for Internet banking support.
Browser Recommendations
To ensure optimal security and access to all features in our online banking product, we recommend using one of the browsers supported by NetTeller. Click here for the list of supported browsers.
How do I tell if the site I am on is secure?
You can verify that you are on a secure site by its URL; secure sites begin with https: ("s" for secure). Many modern browsers will also place a padlock icon in the URL bar. Additionally, some secure sites will highlight all or some of the URL bar green.
Important: The lock icon only describes the encryption status of the page while your computer was receiving it.
